19TH CENTURY
The first, decorated in the imari palette, the centre painted with a rampant lion crest below the motto 'In Ecclesiam Regemque'. Flight Barr & Barr factory mark to reverse. The second, with a blue ground and gilt floral decorated border with the central arms of Claxson above the motto ' Sapere Aude Incipe'. Benjamin Saunders Claxson married Charlotte Eamer on 30th April 1839 in Brighton, Sussex. Marked 'Davenport Longport Staffordshire' to reverse, circa 1840.
The third, with a gilded blue ground edge, the centre bearing the arms of Knox with Grogan in pretence, above the motto 'Moveo Et Proficior'. A Coalport replacement for an earlier Caughley service, circa 1825.
