ITALIAN WALNUT COFFER
Italian Renaissance walnut cassone low coffer, simple design with five panel front and panel sides. Two large lion front feet, wood, original patina.
Tuscany, mid-16th Century.
Width 184.5; Depth 60cm; Height 59cm

Estimate $1,500 - $2,500

Sold for $3,000

In excellent condition for an item of this great age. The huge walnut top panels have at some time been professionally conserved along the joins and natural grain lines. The carved front feet show appropriate signs of age. Iron fittings at locks appear to be original. Has a rustic, beautifully waxed patina to the surfaces.
