Michael Camakaris utilises a range of media in his practice including gouache, acrylic paint, compressed charcoal and chinagraph. He often combines multiple mediums in one artwork, subtly creating a cohesive and integrated image. His practice draws inspiration from diverse subjects, and his work for the auction aptly taps into his politically and socially motivated 'gas mask series', which is poigniant given present events. Camakaris has worked at Arts Project since 2010 and presented his first solo installation Five Bulls, No Bull in 2013 for Shepparton Art Museum's Drawing Wall Commission. He has exhibited in numerous group shows and has work in private collections worldwide. And in 2019, he undertook a traineeship at Leonard Joel, which makes his inclusion in this auction all the more poignant.
