Patrick Francis is a prolific figurative painter, who works primarily in acrylic on paper. His paintings draw on personal experiences as well as popular culture and art history. His portrait Armand Roulin of Van Gogh's 1888 Portrait of Armand Roulin is a prime example of his ongoing interest in the work of historical painters and their sitters. Francis has worked at Arts Project since 2009 and held his first solo exhibition in 2014. He has participated in numerous group shows including Melbourne Now at the National Gallery of Victoria and in 2012 was a recipient of the Art & Australia/Credit Suisse Private Banking Contemporary Art Award. His work is held in public and private collections Australiawide.
