In 2013 – 2014 Arts Project Australia artist Rebecca Scibilia paired with city-based artist Steven Asquith to create Leo Sayer for the organisations 40th birthday exhibition Knowing Me Knowing You. The project saw 10 APA artists team up with 10 external artists to form creative connections in honour of the milestone. Scibilia and Asquith took the blank canvas and shuffled it between studios for 12 months, gradually building layers and evolving the work to its finished state. This historical piece resonates with the core values of Arts Project Australia; inclusive and engaged, advocating for the supported artists to be seen and valued in the same light as their contemporaries.

Scibilia has worked in the Arts Project Australia studio since 1999. She creates bold abstract works laced with symbolism and humour. She has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally and her work is held the Leeuwin Estate Collection. Asquith's work engages with both traditional notions of mark making and contemporary abstraction, interweaving modern materials with primitive symbolism to negate the traditional boundaries of composition. He was a participant in an international exchange with Exit Art in New York in 2000 and has lived and worked in New York and London and held a position at Gagosian Gallery, London from 2001 to 2005. He established The Ship Gallery, an ARI in London with Dick Evans in 2003 in association with the British Arts Council and was one of the Founding Directors of Block Projects, Melbourne, 2007.
