Chris Mason is an accomplished mid-career artist who works across a range of mediums including painting, drawing, ceramics and sculpture. His practice involves extensive research, generating material with a focus on voluptuous female forms and reptiles. Basilsk Lizard on a Rock appears to capture something of the essence of this dinosaur-like creature; calm and ancient, as if an extension of the rock it clings to. Mason has worked at Arts Project since 1997 and has presented solo exhibitions including Darren Knight Gallery, Sydney and has been curated into group exhibitions in Australia and the USA. Collections include the National Gallery of Australia, State Library of Victoria and National Gallery of Victoria. His work is held in private collections worldwide.
