James MacSporran is an emerging artist who has a painting and drawing practice that expands to include collage—preferring to work on medium-scale when in the studio, large-scale when working on public murals. Stylistically, his practice synthesises graffiti and abstraction, resulting in intricate paintings that conjure references to street art, mazes, and old-style arcade games. In City Train, we see MacSporran's trademark angular graffiti graphic in pastel hues adorn a train cutting through a sun-bleached city, silently carrying a sparse spatter of passengers. MacSporran has worked in the Arts Project studio since 2016 and has been featured in exhibitions in Australia and Hong Kong.
