AN EXCEPTIONAL 18CT GOLD AND DIAMOND 'COLLECTION INTERNATIONALE' DEMI-PARURE, BULGARI, CIRCA 1995
Comprising: a necklace modelled as a continuous line of interlaced curb links supporting bell-shaped drops pavé-set with brilliant-cut diamonds, the reverse decorated with openwork architectural motifs, inner circumference approximately 360mm; a pair of earrings en suite, length approximately 28mm, signed Bulgari, post and clip fittings. (2)
LITERATURE
Amanda Triossi and Daniela Mascetti, Bulgari, Thames and Hudson, London, 2007, pp. 183-184 (illustrated, another example).
NOTES
At the London film premier of Evita in 1996, Madonna wore a diamond enhanced version.
The mid-nineties marked a new direction for Bulgari where the jewels were re-imagined to convey a sense of volume. Drawing inspiration from ancient Roman architecture the 'Collection Internationale' captures a three-dimensional effect through the extensive use of rounded decorative elements, smooth outlines and a reverse finished in a lattice framework.
Rendering a sense of volume in a jewel is a defining feature of a Bulgari design.
