This elegantly balanced work by John Dudley combines light sketching with dense ink application, the composition generating deeper intrigue on closer inspection.

John Dudley is an emerging artist working primarily with gouache, greylead pencil and ink on paper. Previous work had a figurative emphasis, with a focus on architecture, landscapes and animals. More recently, he has started small abstract paintings and drawings with a spatial approach, built up layer upon layer with striking blocks of colour. His practice maintains the fine detail he is known for, which economically conveys information and captures depth, perspective and structure with minimal marks on the page.

Dudley has worked at the Arts Project Australia studio since 2017 and has been featured at Arts Project Australia's yearly Annual Gala exhibitions.
