In Paddle Steamer the colour fields and composition are reminiscent of Rothko, yet Elizabeth Dunkley's work engages a wildness in her strokes rather than a dense, concentrated application, generating a sense of being in an exposed, natural environment.

Elizabeth Dunkley is an emerging artist creating gestural abstract paintings with merging colour fields. Her textured organic compositions primarily feature paint pen drawings over painted acrylic grounds and demonstrate her talent for colour selection, composition and balance, adding defined focal points to her painting. Her works bring to mind the work of Sonia Delaunay in their striking explorations of colour and graphic composition.

Dunkley has worked at Arts Project since 2017 and has exhibited in several group exhibitions at Arts Project Australia.
