Forster's 2020 communicates on a number of levels; city lights and the feeling of a new year, an abstracted digital display screen with the date sitting in place, brail or a musical composition.
Sam Forster is an emerging artist whose miniature pictograms incorporate repetitive patterns of dots and text to form complex visual symbols creating a personal vernacular for subjects of interest, such as popular television shows My Kitchen Rules and Home and Away and objects from everyday life, like houses, cars and flowers. Working primarily with dry pastel on black paper, his coloured dots and symbols glow like lights in the darkness, offering just enough visual familiarity to suggest a landscape.
Forster has worked at the Arts Project Australia studio since 2017 and has participated in group exhibitions in Melbourne. His work is held in private collections in Australia.
