In After Matisse Le Luxe I, Gjomakaj has removed the figurative elements of the original masterpiece and is instead inspired by the composition of the landscape and deep, saturated colour palette.
Sula Gjomakaj is an emerging artist who works with acrylic, pastel and ink on paper to create dense and broody artworks. Skilfully manipulating dry pastel, he conjures dramatic landscapes to a great effect through a striking exploration of colour.
Gjomakaj has been working at the Arts Project Australia studio since 2017. He has exhibited in the last three iterations of Arts Project's Annual Gala, and his work is held in private collections.
