Smiley Face is characteristic of Gold's work in the layering of bold, rich colours to create depth and texture.

Ian Gold is an emerging artist whose abstract paintings echo the rhythm and repetition of his process. His thick layering of rich colour creates depth and texture within his work, often revealing hidden text or figures upon closer inspection. Drawing inspiration from subjects that excite his curiosity, his work alludes to popular culture, animals and objects.

Gold has been attending the Arts Project Australia since 2008, with a short break away from the studio in 2019. He has been included in numerous group exhibitions and in 2014 received an honourable mention in the Belle Arti Prize. His work is held public and private collections in Australia.
