Anyone fortunate enough to have met the artist would agree that this portrait speaks to Licenblat's larger-than-life personality, and is a nod to his penchant for various uniforms, a detail he treats with great care in his artwork.

Spanning drawing, animation and zines, Michael Licenblat's practice is punctuated by a vivid graphic sensibility. His works are reminiscent of comic books, integrating his cartoonesque characters with text and speech bubbles to form inventive and humorous narratives. Inspired by police dramas, alien mysteries and zombie apocalypses from Cinema and TV as well as his own personal experiences such as visiting laser games and ghost trains, he is an energetic and imaginative storyteller.

Licenblat has worked in the Arts Project Australia studio since 2017. He published his first zine 'Dream Gladiators' a fantasy thriller in 2019. His work is held in private collections throughout Australia.
