The celebratory spirit is displayed here in classic Romangano style, the blocks of rich, saturated colour only strengthening the mood of the piece.
Anthony Romagnano works predominantly in pencil, paint and digital media, often referencing source material from popular culture or old fairy tale illustrations. He meticulously examines and interprets an image before drawing in the outline of an image, then adding blocks of vivid colour. In combination, his compositions present much like a mosaic or stained-glass window, except that the artist applies opaque layers of pencil, paint or digital rendering to paper.
Romagnano has worked at Arts Project Australia since 2004 and had his first solo exhibition in 2008. He has exhibited in numerous group shows including at Melbourne Art Fair, Centre for Contemporary Photography and No Vacancy Gallery, Melbourne and was a finalist in the Wyndham Art Prize, Werribee. His work is in the public collection of National Gallery of Victoria, as gifted by Stuart Purves as well as corporate and private collections.
