Positively No Smoking by Christine Rule depicts a simply drawn figure caught in mid-scold, body language strong and facial expression disapproving.

Christine Rule is an emerging artist who works with a variety of mediums including pencil, dry pastel, ink and gouache on paper. Primarily a figurative artist, she has an idiosyncratic style and uses linework to define her mainly figurative subjects. She draws with deliberate sensitivity, leaving some artworks as they are—as graphic outlines—whereas in other paintings she fills in the figures with solid, flattened colour.

Rule has worked at Arts Project Australia since 2016, and her work is held in private collections.
