Lachlan Turk's The Unhappiest Place on Earth turns a childhood delight into a nightmarish scene of horror, the once mystical ponies speared and limbless, their candy-coloured coats battered, bloodied and scarred.
Lachlan Turk is an emerging multi-disciplinary artist. He works with collage, fine liner, gouache, watercolour and digital mediums, typically creating cartoon-like characters developed from personal experiences and ideas in bold colour with humorous narratives. His cast of characters effectively offers illustrative and surrealistic representations of his emotional states. His portraiture and photography incorporate dramatic lighting and shadows through coloured fabrics, reflecting his interest in horror and gothic narratives.
Turk has worked in the studio at Arts Projects Australia since 2016. He has featured several group exhibitions in Melbourne including at the Centre for Contemporary Photography and Linden New Art.
