Lee Aguinaldo was considered a pioneer of Phillipine modernism. Born into a military family, he spent his early years in America where he was captivated by the art of Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Ad Reinhart and later, Robert Rauschenberg. The American modernists greatly influenced his art practice and conceptual thinking - ideas that revolutionised the Filipino art scene.
