THREE JAPANESE STUDIO POTTERY VASES
BY TOMINAGA GENROKU (1859-1920)

The first a high shouldered porcelain vase featuring leaves in sometsuke (underglaze blue) and overglaze flowers. The second a high shouldered porcelain vase with overall decoration of typical Chinese Sansui (Moutains & Waterfall) design in sometsuke. The third of baluster form with leaves in underglaze? (are they underglaze or over?) and flowers in bud. (All signed Genroku??) (3) Further information: Tominaga Genroku worked in Takeo, not far from the traditional center for Japanese porcelain production in Arita. His accomplishments include attaining a position as head of the Protection of Cultural Properties Commission, and winning third prize at the Fifth National Industrial Exposition in 1903.
