Lot 199
First edition featuring 81 engraved plates after Hogarth's famous series including the Rake's Progress, The Times of the Day and Marriage a-la-Mode.
Height 47cm; Width 30cm
Estimate $1,000 - $2,000
One of the first authorised editions of Hogarth's works after his death in 1764, using his original metal plates. The plates were used for a number of later publications resulting in a progressive loss of definition and quality of the impressions. Therefore the engravings in this first edition display an exceptional level of detail and accuracy to the originals.
