Lot 100
BY JEAN-LOUIS-BENJAMIN-GROS, CIRCA 1850
The rouge granite plate top above a frieze with acanthus scroll ormolu, inlaid with gilded banding overall, the single door incorporating ebony parquetry applied with patera ormolu and centred with a lyre above an arrangement of festoons and ribbons, above an apron, the side panels also with ebony parquetry. Signed 'GROS PARIS' beneath granite plate
120cm high, 112cm wide, 46cm deep
Estimate $6,000 - $8,000
The granite plate has a very small chip to the right edge. Both sides have minor losses and splitting to the ebony veneer together with lifting in two places. The door has several minor losses to the ebony veneer toward the bottom. There is a build up of dirt on the ormolu that is consistent with age. The interior has some noticeable lifting to the veneer, the castors are later additions.
