"In 'Grand Hotel' 1978 Gil Jamieson has chronicled the daily life of a country town such as his native Monto, in Queensland. It was Jamieson's spontaneous expressionist style that attracted support from such eminent patrons as John Reed, for Jamieson combined his expressive emotional style with genuine emotion and an 'innocent eye' which recorded his intimate knowledge and understanding of rural life."
