Lot 85

A GEORGE III MAHOGANY BUREAU, 1760s

104.4cm high, 96cm wide, 53cm deep

Estimate $1,200 - $1,800

Unsold

In reasonable condition overall but with typical wear, minor damage, and previous repair; the following describes the more noticeable faults. There is a loss to the right rear edge of the top; various losses and previous repairs to the veneer to the faces of the drawer dividers and of the lopers; and some damage and losses to the lip moulding around the drawer fronts. There are shrinkage cracks to both sides and typical shrinkage gaps and cracks to the backboards and drawer bases. There are several small holes through the fall, filled on its outer side but not on its inner side. Large parts of the feet (if not all?) are replacements. The brasses are replacements; the lower drawer lacks a lock (those to the other drawers appear original). The fitted interior is stained and its lower right drawer is quite firmly stuck in place.
