The verso of the NSW certificate of police service is not visible (fully sealed within its frame) but the way the paper lies rippled in the frame suggests it has not been laid down. None of the other documents have been laid down.

The 1839 Pass is in the poorest condition - worn and cracked and with small losses along its folds and creased elsewhere; stained and generally dirty, especially verso; and with old (and now degrading) tape across parts of it.

The other four documents are generally in reasonably good condition, allowing for age and handling, with mostly clean and undistressed folds and only occasional light stains. The Victorian gold license is a little more stained, and its folds more worn with a little cracking and there are also small losses to its left edge. The NSW certificate of police service is more creased and rippled across the sheet.

We have not verified whether any of the documents have been trimmed at any of their edges.
