Lot 100
19TH CENTURY
Of breakfront outline, the upper part with moulded cornice above four astragal-glazed doors, the slightly projecting lower part with four cabinet doors, on a moulded plinth base, decorated with inlaid fields and banding throughout.
227cm high, 231cm wide, 37cm deep
Estimate $6,000 - $8,000
In addition to typical light wear and superficial knocks and marks, especially to the plinth, we note the following. The removable cornice is fixed together as one piece but there are small gaps and misalignments in the fitting together of its sections. The upper part of the book-case, while original to the lower part, does not sit perfectly squarely on it, with some unevenness in the relationship between the two parts, meaning also that the latch bolt to the bottom the centre left door of the upper part does not align with its receiving mortice to the top of the lower part. All four doors of the lower part are warped to some degree. There are various small losses and previous repairs to the veneer and banding, minor shrinkage splits (mostly filled) and other surface blemishes, and repaired breaks to the astragal-moulded glazing bars.
