Overall craquelure and areas of paint loss, retouching likely to stabilise paint loss throughout but predominantly in background, to the hat and around the edges, however his face, collar and left hand are largely unaffected, long scratch to left-hand side and two long scratches to right-hand side, smaller scratch to lower centre, examined under UV light
