A FRENCH LOUIS XVI STYLE MAHOGANY SIDEBOARD
BY MAISON GOUFFÉ, PARIS, MID 20TH CENTURY

The shaped marble top above four frieze drawers and panelled cabinet doors opening to glass shelves, on toupie feet, brass mounts throughout. Gouffé label inside one drawer.

In very good condition, excepting occasional very superficial scratches and knocks consistent with age and use and the following further points. The right-most front support is broken at its connection to the carcase (repairing which will require replacement of the connecting dowel). There is a small chip to the lower edge of the marble at its left end and minor wear elsewhere to the lower edge.

The back of the sideboard is presently inaccessible and has not been inspected for purposes of this report.

Maison Gouffé was a well known Parisian cabinet maker in the 1930s and its Contemporary Furniture Department was directed by acclaimed furniture designer Jean Royère (from 1934 to 1942).
