CATALOGUE ESSAY
The Cartier Tank was first introduced to the public in 1917. The design was informed by the French tank of World War One. Since its initial launch the Tank has undergone numerous iterations. The Cartier Tank Américaine was officially introduced in 1989. Although it hails from the diverse Tank family, the Américaine was the very first to feature a curved water-resistant case.
The present example is a limited edition Cartier Tank Américaine in 18ct pink gold with only 18 examples produced. Numbered 14/18, the edition was exclusive to the Boutique Cartier, Bund 18, Nanjing, Shanghai and sold to the public in 1992. This watch represents an exciting opportunity to share in the Cartier China story.
