Lot 103
EDO PERIOD (1603-1868), CIRCA 17TH/18TH CENTURY
Constructed using yosegi-zukuri (assembled from several pieces of wood) technique, sensitively carved as a Buddha figure seated in padmasana with hands clasped in dhyanamudra on a double lotus throne, the head inset with two rock crystal cabochons.
29cm high, 20.5cm wide
Estimate $2,000 - $3,000
Small losses to wooden edges and to the lacquer and gilt finish, and small age-related cracks. Small old repairs. The base beneath the double lotus throne a possible later replacement. Missing the original mandorla, the space for which to slot in to the lotus throne filled in long ago.
