T. GAUNT AND CO. DIAMOND PENDANT/BROOCH, AUSTRALIAN, CIRCA 1910

Property from a Private Sydney Collection

Of garland style, the openwork frame embellished with stylised scroll and foliate motifs decorated with old mine-cut diamonds terminating on three diamond set pendant swing drops, mounted in 15ct gold, length 70mm, width 45mm, detachable brooch fitting, signed T. Gaunt.

Accompanied by a Gaunt box.

CATALOGUE ESSAY
Thomas Gaunt initially set up business in 1852 at 14 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne later, in 1867, moving to larger premises at 337-339 Bourke Street, the Royal Arcade corner.
The firm were renowned for their extensive design repertoire and quality workmanship using local materials to produce outstanding jewellery along with ceremonial ecclesiastical objects, chronographs and racing trophies including the Caufield Cup using Australian gold.
