The Coronation Spoon, one of the oldest pieces of coronation regalia to survive in the Royal Collection, was first recorded in 1349 amongst St Edward's Regalia in Westminster Abbey and at that time was considered to be a spoon of "antique forme". It is used, with the Ampulla, to anoint the sovereign before the crowning.
