The oval miniature depicting a seated young girl playing with birds, signed Paillet, mounted in a gold frame edged with chased foliate motifs, length 33mm, width 28mm, total gross weight approximately 10 grams, signed Boucheron, Paris, French assay marks, maker's mark.
NOTES
Ferdinand Paillet was a classical artist specialising in producing miniatures for the workshop of Verger who supplied them to some of the major jewel houses which included Boucheron. He used classical motifs to decorate jewellery and watches. Examples of his work are held in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Condition Report:
In our opinion the brooch displays minor abrasions and scratches to glass with some scuffs and scratches to the gold, painting in good condition, with minor losses to areas of paint commensurate with age and wear.
The brooch is of very good workmanship with signs of wear consistent with age and use, not noticeable when worn. Pin secure.
Overall condition is good considering its period.
