The Collection of Dacre King, Sydney
This shape of plate is probably based on a silver prototype its scalloped rim interspersed by shaped reserves, painted with fruits and insects. The shape was first used by Chelsea for the so-called Duke of Cumberland service in the Royal Collection and this plate is from a service thought to have been created for William, Duke of Gloucester, brother of George III (1742-1805) and later bequeathed to Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge (1774-1850) and then was passed down to Prince George, 2nd Duke of Cambridge (1819-1904) on whose death it was sold at Christies, 8 June 1904 and dispersed.
There are further examples in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
