Lot 116
This table screen is framed with zitan wood, its outer edges decorated with swirling guaizi (hook) patterns resembling flowing clouds. The rectangular frame is meticulously crafted and rests within a zitan stand carved with ruyi scroll motifs, showcasing fine detail and precision.
The screen's surface is embellished with tihong (carved red lacquer) work. A brocade-patterned ground serves as the base, upon which a treasure-filled jubao pen (auspicious treasure basin) is intricately carved, surrounded by entwined floral scrolls. The basin overflows with various symbols of prosperity and good fortune, emanating radiant light. Above it, a prominent "Chun" (Spring) character is depicted, its interior featuring a floral brocade pattern with a central round cartouche. Within this cartouche, a Shouxing (God of Longevity) figure is seated beneath a pine tree, accompanied by a crane and a deer, symbolizing "Harmony of Crane and Deer in Spring" and "Pine and Crane for Longevity," both auspicious motifs.
The Chun character and treasure motifs are traditional symbols of good fortune in ancient Chinese imperial culture, frequently featured on various artifacts. This piece employs the classic carved lacquer technique, showcasing rich and solid lacquer application, masterful carving precision, and smooth, expressive lines. The overall composition is perfectly balanced, presenting the design in its finest form, epitomizing the exquisite craftsmanship and cultural heritage of the time.
