A FINE CHINESE INLAID ZITAN SQUARE VASE FORMED CASE, QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The case is modelled in the shape of a square lantern, with the sides colourfully decorated with lotus sprays and butterflies, which are rendered in various hardstones. The flared neck is carved with stylised lappets and the stepped base is raised on four short feet.

清 十八世紀 紫檀木嵌八寶燈籠櫃
此器取紫檀木為料,作方形,方口,方圈足,頸部與近足處相對稱,均略向內收束,並刻畫排列整齊的蕉葉紋飾。瓶腹為方桶狀,四面環繞回紋開光,每個開光內俱貼染牙、壽山石為飾,點綴出連綿纏繞的藤蔓和茁壯綻放的的西番蓮,引來一對蝴蝶翩翩起舞,令畫面增添了不少生機活力。瓶壁中的一面實為暗門,打開後別有洞天,內置暗屜,可存放各類御玩珍寶,用來怡情自樂,這也是清代御用器的一大特色。

紫檀木質堅緻密,色調深沉而顯穩重大方,素有“一吋紫檀一吋金”的說法,常被清代內廷造辦處採用來製作各種器物,其自然形成的紋理也被工匠們運用得出神入化,產生了獨特的藝術效果。在此基礎上,精緻細巧的百寶嵌工藝更為全器豐富了色彩上的變化和發展,尤其是與深邃沉穩的紫檀組合在一起,達到典雅和華麗的完美結合。
