Lot 147
Joshua Peacock, Macclesfield, late 18th century
The eight-day movement with anchor escapement striking on a bell, the silvered and decoratively engraved Roman numeral dial with subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture within foliate brass spandrels, the glazed hood with swan-neck pediment centred on a brass spread-eagle and orb final above flanking turned columns, the trunk of typical form with a door with shaped top flanked by a pair of fluted quarter-columns on the moulded plinth base on bracket feet, the predominantly oak case inlaid throughout with mahogany fields, cross-banding, and decorative details
223cm high, 54cm wide, 25cm deep
Estimate $1,200 - $1,800
The case is very well presented in previously lightly restored condition. Holes to the upper corners of the hood indicate these previously accommodated finials, now absent.
The movement and its operation has not been assessed by Leonard Joel's consultant horologist but the movement appears to be intact and clean; it should be assumed it may require some servicing. The pendulum, weights, and key for the trunk door are present but no winding key.
The opinions expressed in the condition reports are a guide only and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Prospective buyers are encouraged to seek further information or request additional images during our pre-sale period where Leonard Joel staff are available for advice. Please note condition reports can be amended during the pre-sale period, so we strongly suggest any interested bidders check the published condition report available on the website before the auction commences. Leonard Joel makes no guarantee of the originality of mechanical or applied components. Absence of reference to such modifications does not imply that a lot is free from modifications.
