Lot 35
1959–1960
The recessed upper part with a pair of sliding glass doors enclosing adjustable shelves, the lower part with a pair of sliding horizontally-reeded doors enclosing an open interior, on splayed trestle supports with copper caps joined with a shaped stretcher
165cm high, 136cm wide, 38cm deep
Estimate $5,500 - $7,500
Generally in good condition, with some marks of use, principally scratches and stains to the top of the lower part and light scratches around the finger holds of the sliding doors to the lower part. The copper caps to the feet (which are sleeves loosely fitting over the tips of the supports) are scuffed and discoloured.
The upper part rests loosely on the lower. To tie these together, small brass plates have been later fixed to the back of their meeting edges. To allow these plates to lie flush against the edges of the carcases and the backboards, the edges of carcases (which originally projected a little beyond the plane of the backboards) have been locally planed down to accommodate the plates.
