Lot 159

A LARGE OAK DINING TABLE IN 17th CENTURY ITALIAN MANNER
Graham Geddes, Melbourne, 1990s

The rectangular parquetry top raised on three square baluster supports with shaped sled feet joined with a floor stretcher
77cm high, 350cm long, 120cm wide

Estimate $2,000 - $3,000

Sold for $3,800

Generally in very good condition, showing little wear (excepting the original intentional distressing simulating centuries of ordinary use-related wear).

To a small area around the centre of the top, use-related wear has removed flakes of the original coloured varnish, exposing the natural lighter colour of the wood. One corner of the top is lightly bumped.

The baluster supports are each made up of four thick pieces of wood glued together vertically. On one of the end balusters there is some shrinkage separation between these pieces, the widest gaps being 2–3mm wide. There is some separation to the other supports but this more slight.
