The flat-edged curved waisted body motifs on either side of the central portion bear a strong resemblance to Dong Son culture axe heads which have been excavated on the north coast of New Guinea. It is a fascinating conjecture when one considers that the axe heads found in New Guinea date from c. 500 BCE

The curvilinear motifs are thought to represent sex organs.
