Lot 32

AN OAK SIDE CABINET BY SCHULIM KRIMPER
1960s

Rectangular, the pair of panelled doors with moulded pulls enclosing adjustable shelves, raised on tapering square supports joined with a lattice of longitudinal and lateral stretchers, the top joined to the sides with moulded projecting through dovetails, the back of the cabinet also decoratively finished
86cm high, 96cm wide, 54cm deep

Estimate $4,000 - $6,000

Sold for $9,500

Generally in very good condition. The top shows light wear to its polish consistent with use, with some superficial scratches and a light dried liquid mark and there is accumulated surface dirt to the lower parts of the door pulls from handling. The rest of the cabinet shows little appreciable wear.

The two removable shelves to the interior may be original (they are profiled and finished in a manner consistent with Krimper's work) but, as they are in an Australian hardwood (whereas the rest of the cabinet is in oak), this is uncertain. The shelves originally rested on movable brass pegs (for use at different levels) but small metal brackets have been added later, fixed at mid height, to support the shelves. Four small rebates have been let into the edges of each shelf to accommodate the brackets.
