Lot 151
Franco-Flemish or Dutch, second half 19th century
The bevelled rectangular main plate within receding marginal plates in a ripple-moulded and ebonised wood frame surmounted with a pediment, the frame with gilt repoussé brass mounts of floral and foliate design throughout
165cm high, 103cm wide, 11cm deep
Estimate $1,200 - $1,800
The silvering to the main plate is finely spotted throughout. (This is partly visible in the catalogue photo as a vertical band to the centre, where it is most prominent, but it does extend to a lesser degree across the whole plate, not visible in the catalogue photo.) The margin plates have more slight blemishes.
On its upper and left sides the main plate has moved away from the edge of the frame, opening a gap between the two (which ought to be readily rectified by pressing the plate back into place from behind, which would require the backboard to be removed).
There are losses and breaks to the applied ripple moulding at the outermost edges on the right and lower sides.
Otherwise in good condition with typical minor handling wear and light oxidisation to the gilt brass consistent with age and type.
