Lot 21
Frati & Co., Berlin, dated 1884
The 90cm crank-operated wooden barrel movement (later fitted with an electric motor) with fifteen brass cornets and fourteen piccolo flutes in a wooden case mounted on a tricycle platform carriage with a canopy on four posts, the case and canopy with decorative turned and carved details throughout, painted and with incised gilt details including the maker's name and the date 1884, the frieze of the case with four applied repoussé brass medallions representing prizes awarded for the organ at 1880s English and European and European exhibitions, accompanied by two additional barrels in pine crates
Electricity Safety Act 1998: This electrical equipment may be faulty and should be inspected and tested by a competent person in accordance with AS/NZS 3760 before connection to electricity supply.
208cm high, 208cm wide (overall length of the carriage), 151cm deep (the spare barrel crate each 29cm high, 124cm wide, 30cm deep)
Estimate $4,000 - $6,000
The organ appears to be working well but we have not thoroughly tested its operation nor fitted the spare cylinders, and cannot comment on the condition of working parts including the electric motor.
Some restoration of the horn trumpets is evident. The case and carriage redecorated throughout, evidently in recent decades.
The decoration remains generally well preserved with occasional lights bumps, scuffs, and general wear, mostly to extremities
