Mike Kelley frequently turned to everyday surroundings as a way of examining how cultural identity is formed. "#2 (Sun Valley)" comes from his "Three Valleys" project, which began as a performance work in 1980 and was later developed into a series of colour photographs in 1998. The work situates the suburban landscape as a meaningful site of social memory and shared experience.
