A FRENCH MUSICAL AUTOMATON, LADY AT THE RACES
By Roullet et Decamps, circa 1890

Modelled as an elegantly-costumed lady of society spending a day at the races, the bisque head with blue glass inset eyes, brunette mohair wig, papier-mâché body, metal hinged upper arms with bisque forearms, standing upon a green velvet-covered plinth, when wound, music plays and a series of synchronized movements occur, as the lady lifts her binoculars to her face, the veil on her bonnet raises; then, as her arm lowers, the veil lowers (having presumably spotted her winning horse) she excitedly taps her parasol six times on the floor
56cm high (overall), the plinth 21cm wide, 21cm deep
