A FRENCH MUSICAL AUTOMATON, "CLOWN A LA GUITARE"
By Leopold Lambert, catalogue no. 43, circa 1885

Modelled as a clown seated cross-legged on a wooden stool dressed in a colourful silk and lace costume holding a guitar, with a paper mache head with painted white complexion, red tipped nose and clown decorations, brown glass eyes, blonde mohair wig, carton torso and legs, metal hinge at hips, bisque hands, when wound, the clown turns his head side to side, nods, eyelids open and close and tongue sticks in and out, while he strums the guitar with his right hand, and taps his right leg in time to the music which plays
60cm high, the base 19cm wide, 27cm deep
