There are various shrinkage cracks to the gesso scattered throughout, mostly on the mouldings of the frame, and occasional slight surface losses to the gesso. There is a cluster of more pronounced surface losses to the upper left of the torus moulding (around the ten o'clock position) which has been partly covered with gold paint. The gilding appears to be mostly original, with a typical degree of superficial wear and surface dirt, but the outer sides of the base frame have been refinished in gold paint.

Both of the eagle's wings have been reattached, with associated filling of cracks (some cracks remaining) and covered with gold paint (not matching in tone). The attachment of the foliate tailpiece is loose (requires tightening or replacement of the fixing screws) and its outermost right part has been reattached leaving a residual crack. On each side of the lower part of the frame, on its outer sides, is a pair of vacant screw holes and associated disturbance in the gesso surface, probably associated with mounting brackets formerly fixed at these points.

The plate appears to be an old replacement and shows occasional slight, unobtrusive spots of degradation to its silvering.
