Lot 100
Early 20th century
The eight-day countwheel movement striking on a bell, the enamelled and brass Roman numeral dial centred on a portrait of the Sun King and signed 'MARTINOT Á PARIS' below in a glazed case of typical upright form in Boulle manner, inlaid with cut brass in the simulated tortoiseshell ground and with various gilt bronze mounts including a figure of a winged putto holding a scythe to the top and an allegorical female figure to the front, the bracket conforming
The clock 88cm high, 39cm wide, 14cm deep; the bracket 29cm high, 41cm wide, 18cm deep
Estimate $1,000 - $1,500
The movement appears intact and clean but its physical or running condition has not been assessed by a horologist and we have no information on its service history.
The case is generally well presented. The shaft of the scythe held by the putto is bent out of alignment; a strip of brass fascia to the upper left side is loose (requiring flattening and pinning down); and there a few scattered and inconspicuous slight losses to the cut brass inlay and occasional superficial blemishes to the simulated tortoiseshell ground. The bracket is in similarly good condition.
A winding key is present but not a key for the lock to the front door of the case.
