A TIBETAN THANGKA OF AMOGHAPASHA, 18TH CENTURY
The three-headed deity is seated in vajraparyankasana upon a moon disc supported on a lotus throne, holding a trishula in the upper right hand, the upper left in varada mudra, a lotus in the lower right hand, and a pasha in the lower left. The lower register is inscribed in Tibetan script.
The inscription translated as:
"
Beneficence!
This is the representation of the entire tantra of the deity Amoghapasha - 'He Who Holds The Unfailing Noose' - who is depicted with three faces and four arms. As for the benefits of seeing this painting they arise from merely beholding the tantra (mis-spelled in text) itself.
Just by seeing this cotton-cloth painted bodily representation of that deity, it would be quite befitting to also see the painted image of the mighty deity Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara) which is housed in the incomparable palace of the Potala.
With this painting's superior qualities, it will fully resolve the terrors of the great hell-realms, the eight great fears as well as the five great sins which are beyond all forgiveness. Moreover things such as abandoning the Holy Buddhist teachings, uttering wicked things concerning the Buddha, the bodhisattvas and the order of Buddhist monks and other such things, all these obscurations of what is holy, inasmuch as they are perceived they will be condemned and purified by merely seeing this painting.
Through your own diligent work to avoid the lowest of the Hell-realms you will attain complete liberation from such states. Through the hundred-thousand merits arising from the mighty deity Brahma, the roots of appropriate virtue will develop and you will attain the most excellent virtuous roots of all worldly people.
At the time of your death moreover, the Mighty Arya Avalokiteshvara himself will reveal his face and engage in teaching and he will also dispense comfort and a sense of safety to all beings. At the time of your death and the transmigration of your consciousness moreover, you will be reborn in the most perfect blissful realm of Sukhavati and you will become free from all things that obscure your mind, your lifespan will expand to fifty times one hundred thousand years - all of which you will recall.
Throughout the very heart of the state of the entirety of Enlightenment this will be your very final rebirth. Just by seeing (the actuality of) this present body, once the heap of merit becomes so that it is absolutely beyond any measure whatsoever this will be inscribed for all eternity. As for the many deeds which you will perform they will possess absolutely no sense of backsliding to them at all.
May the state of unexcelled Enlightenment and completely pure awakening in all its vastness come into being! (May) Virtue prevail!

凡見此繪於棉布之本尊色身者,亦如得見安住於無上布達拉宮中的大悲聖者觀世音(Chenrezig / Avalokiteśvara)聖像,福德無量。
憑藉此唐卡殊勝功德,能盡除地獄諸苦、八大怖畏,以及五無間罪等極重罪障。又如捨棄正法、誹謗佛陀、菩薩與僧團等一切不善業障,凡所積集者,僅以瞻禮此像,皆得懺淨消除。
若能依此勤修,遠離惡趣地獄,終得究竟解脫。由大梵天等所生百千功德善根,亦將於自身增長,成就世間最勝善業福報。
臨命終時,聖者觀自在菩薩將親現其前,為其開示教法,並賜予一切有情安慰與無畏。神識遷轉之際,將得往生極樂淨土(Sukhāvatī),遠離一切覆障,壽命增廣至五十乘十萬歲,並具宿命憶念。
此生將為成就圓滿菩提之前最後一次受生。僅見此現身,即能積聚不可思議、無量無邊之福德資糧,永誌無盡。其後所行諸善業,永不退轉。
願無上正等正覺、廣大清淨圓滿菩提速得成就!
