Lot 99

A LARGE AND RARE CHINESE CARVED STONE STANDING TORSO OF BODHISATTVA, NORTHERN WEI PERIOD (386-534)
The figure wearing a traditional pilgrims robe in closed mode wrapped and tied high across the chest with concentric folds falling towards the lower limbs, the upper arms covered also and supporting deep folds of cloth draped over the crook of each arm held outright, the partial left hand suggests a grasp of something now missing, mounted upon a low set black plinth.
