Maker's mark cancelled to base, to cover and finial of Charles Boyton, London 1848, campana shaped with two leaf capped C-scroll handles flanking the gadrooned and leaf chased body and knop, on a lobate foot; the cover with scrolled border and a kangaroo finial; engraved within a repoussé cartouche "FARMERS CUP/WON BY/ Mr. John Dick./on "TAFFY" beating five others/14th Jany: 1850." The reverse with a repoussé scene of three racing horses with jockeys up.

THE FARMER'S CUP, OF £20 value, with £30 in specie added, for horses the property of Farmers, in the County of Bourke. Three miles and a distance. Weight- 12 stone 7 lb. Entrance- One Guinea. Mr. Thos Miller's g g Bad News, 4 yrs; John Black's b g Taffy, 5 yrs; Armstrong's bh Yeoman, 5yrs; Wm. Oswin's g g Baron, aged Beale's .. b g Wallaby 6 yrs; J. Brown's b g Moonraker 4 yrs; N.B. -All horses must be the bona fide property of Farmers previous to the 1st December, 1849. No horse allowed to run that has ever won an advertised prize of more than £10. Owners and riders to be Farmers, or Farmers Sons. Entries to take place at the Royal Hotel, Collins-street, on Saturday evening, the 15th December, 1849, between the hours of 8 and 9 o'clock, under cover to the Stewards, stating age pedigree, and colors of the rider.
